It Ain't Easy Being a Baby

Elizabeth is quickly approaching her four month birthday (22nd). In the last few weeks, Elizabeth has found her thumb and starting sucking it when she sleeps. It's so cute! We've also found out that Elizabeth likes to sleep on her belly. One night, we had her down for tummy time and the next thing we knew, she was laying there sucking her thumb and sleeping. Unfortunately, these days "they" say you should only sleep babies on their backs, so until we get the go ahead from our doc, only naps on her belly when we're watching. Every evening we get entertainment by watching her on the video monitor. Last night, she flipped herself over, BJ went in and rolled her to her back. Then, she flipped back to her belly when he was in the room and started crying because she scared herself. Usually at some point in the night, she gets herself into a strange position and starts crying - she is a very active sleeper!

Sweet Giggles

There isn't anything better than a giggling baby! Elizabeth is giggling more and more and we love it. In the evenings, we can usually get her going, so we caught one on video to share. She reacts to most silly noises and tickling. Her belly/rib cage and neck (like her mom) seem to be her ticklish spots.

The weather outside was delightful

We finally had a nice day in Maryland and we took advantage and got Elizabeth some fresh air. We have realized that having an October baby is both good and bad. It's good because you can show her off at Christmas to family and friends, but bad because it's winter and her nose is stuffy and she's cooped up inside all the time. It was about 60 degrees here yesterday, so we had a little photo shoot on the deck and went for a walk around the neighborhood. Elizabeth is so alert and soaking in everything now, so she didn't even sleep during the walk. She wasn't fussing, but just taking it all in. She's not used to seeing blue sky. Once we got back home, though, she went right to sleep. We had an overall great day with Elizabeth...she was laughing a lot yesterday and it's so cute. Hopefully we can capture a video of it and share. She was laughing when mom laughed and laughing when dad made silly faces and noises at her. Elizabeth really is a happy baby.

Elizabeth or ilzabeth?

So, we know that Elizabeth is a long name and we just haven't shortened it to anything. The first day of daycare, the woman asked if we call her Beth for short. No, we call her Elizabeth. The woman at daycare is Iranian. I didn't even think about it, but she has a hard time saying the "E" in Elizabeth. The other day when I picked E up, a little girl (about 3-4) said "I love that baby." I asked her if she knew her name and matter of factly she said "yes, ilzabeth." So, Elizabeth has a nickname of sorts.

Look at those sweet chubby cheeks - don't you all want to kiss them, too?

Second shift: Daddy entertaining Elizabeth (aka ilzabeth) after work with a little finger snapping. She was cracking up at his finger snapping.
